How you can benefit from attending the Second Annual Las Vegas Down Syndrome Conference

by Lisa Holmquist

I remember feeling overwhelmed at my first Down syndrome conference by how much there was to learn and know! But I quickly realized that the event was designed to provide great information and unlimited growth for families like ours. It was inspiring to meet so many individuals with Down syndrome of all ages, and to connect with their families and the local and national experts who presented.

By the end of my first conference I was tired, but inspired! And I was armed with knowledge that benefited our son numerous times over the years - too numerous to count.

Over the years, my family and I have continued to attend conferences, including the NDSC convention. These events have been invaluable sources of information. I particularly enjoyed a session about college options, and also one about nurturing romantic relationships for people with Down syndrome when they are ready for one. Another favorite session focused on promoting independence across the lifespan, a critical aspect of ensuring that our children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

And my favorite sessions last year at the Las Vegas Down Syndrome Conference were Brian Chicoine and Dennis McGuire sharing ways to help with “self-talk” and anxiety in people with Down syndrome of all ages.

I am excited to share that the upcoming October 7, 2023 Las Vegas Down Syndrome Conference will feature a renowned speaker on the topic of encouraging independence for people with Down syndrome across the life span, from infants to adults. This is just one example of the many valuable resources and opportunities that will be available at our conference for families like yours.

Keep an eye out for the event registration in the early Summer for the October 7, 2023 event.

Attending Down syndrome conferences is a wonderful way to connect with other families, gain valuable insights and knowledge, and support your child's growth and development. We hope you’ll join us in October 2023 in Las Vegas!
